Discover and explore magnificent collections at the Museum of Islamic Art

No visit to the Qatar capital of Doha is complete without visiting one of the city’s most popular tourist attractions, the Museum of Islamic Art which showcases the full scope of Islamic art across three continents over 1400 years.

Built on its own manmade island, situated on one end of the seven kilometres long Corniche among well-kept gardens and gorgeous scenery is the impressive building that encompasses the Museum of Islamic Art. Designed with energy in mind, this is one of the must-see attractions in the city.  The museum has the largest collection of Islamic art anywhere in the world. Collected from the continents of Europe, Africa and Asia, you’ll become lost in the grandeur of the place.

Staying with Fraser Suites Doha is the perfect solution for those seeking a hotel near the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha.

About the museum

The eye-catching building was designed by the world-renowned architect I.M. Pei.  Pei was persuaded to come out of retirement at the age of 91 to design the structure. He travelled throughout the Muslim world to gain experience and insight into Middle Eastern design and history. The attraction is influenced by ancient Islamic buildings and architecture. Other amenities include a gift shop, library, classroom, theatre and a high-end restaurant.

Facilities inside the 5-story museum include temporary and permanent galleries; a gift shop where you can purchase a special souvenir or present, a library, a cafeteria where you can relax with a refreshment and snack. You will also find a 200-seat theatre where adult learning events and workshops take place. There are prayer rooms and ablution facilities inside to cater to Muslim visitors.

External facilities that form part of the crescent shaped MIA park include walking tracks, specially designated cycling routes, a fun carousel ride for children, cafés, restrooms and boat rentals.

MIA is part of Qatar Museums Authority who permits free admission to the museum and its adjoining park area. The park is open 24 hours to cater to residents of the city, meaning you can visit at any time of the day or night and can work around your work schedule if you are visiting Doha on business.
